NMP show “Fun Home” cast set

New Minowa Players and Director Rick Scheffert recently announced the cast for the upcoming production, “Fun Home.” The show is based on the graphic novel of the same name, an autobiographical narrative of Alison Bechdel’s life.

Historical Society annual meeting April 6

Individual speech students advance to All-State

Decorah High School’s individual speech participants (coached by Molly Holkesvik, Gabriel Twedt, Carrie Kauffman, Rachel Breitenbach-Dirks, Lyra McKnight, and Annika Krieg) competed Saturday, March 9, at Hampton-Dumont High School. Selected from Decorah’s 58 performances, 50 received I (excellent) ratings. Many advanced to All-State Festival later this month.

Decorah Library among grant honorees

Decorah Public Library has been selected as one of 310 libraries nationwide to participate in round two of Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities, an American Library Association (ALA) initiative that provides community engagement and accessibility resources to small and rural libraries to help them better serve people with disabilities. The competitive award comes with a $10,000 grant designed to help the library update existing automatic door openers at public entrances and add additional automatic openers to lower-level restrooms.

Vesterheim purchases downtown property

Luther raises $1.2 million at annual ‘Giving Day’

The money raised will support and enhance the Luther experience at the college through the Luther Fund, Luther’s unrestricted current fund that supports all students, faculty, staff and community endeavors on campus.

Vikings come up short in overtime at State 3A Basketball Tourney

The matchups are set for the Iowa high school boys basketball tournament, and the top-seeded #1 Decorah Vikings took on #8 Williamsburg in 3A tournament action March 4 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The Vikings came out on top, 66-42, to advance to the state semi-finals on Thursday afternoon, March 6. The Vikes lost to Davenport Assumption in Thursday’s semi-finals, 61-53.
