Decorah Chorale auditions Aug. 20

The Decorah Chorale, an adult mixed chorus with members from Northeast Iowa and Southeast Minnesota, is holding auditions for the 2023-24 season on Sunday, Aug. 20 between 6-8 p.m. in the Decorah High School Choir Room.

Education Savings Account applications approved across Iowa

The Iowa Department of Education recently announced 18,627 Students First Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) have been approved as of Aug 4. Winneshiek County totals indicate 168 approved applications to date.

Decorah High School students Lucas Arendt, Connor Evelsizer, Gabriel Hiner, Anders Lovstuen, and Aiden Nalean-Carlson earned a trip to New Brunswick, Canada, to represent Iowa in Envirothon international competition by earning the outright highest scores in the aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife, and speech categories at the state contest.

Winneshiek County Historical Society in Decorah, the Bily Clocks Museum & Antonin Dvorak Exhibit in Spillville, and the Friends of Lansing Library were among the 26 recipients of grants awarded this week by the State Historical Society to preserve Iowa’s historical collections and country schools.
