The dedication of the new Winneshiek County Veterans Memorial was held Monday, May 29, at noon, following the Veterans Day Parade in Decorah. The dedication comes after six years of planning, decisions and fundraising by the Winneshiek County Veterans Memorial Association. The covers were removed from the stone slabs, revealing the names of the county’s Veterans.

The crowd was large and very appreciative of the memorial, consisting of 12 black granite panels with 7,501 names of Winneshiek County Veterans from the war of 1812 to present day.   The dedication of the Winneshiek County Veterans Memorial, and the beauty in design and recognition of all Veterans was a monumental effort that will stand the test of time.

Photos from the installation and dedication can be found in the June 1 Public Opinion.
