When Alecia Bucksa teamed up with Laree Schouweiler 6.5 years ago to share space for B. Fit Studios and Reefuel, respectively, she knew they’d have two great studios under one roof.
“I was introduced to kettlebells shortly after moving to Decorah in 2010,” Bucksa said. “I fell in love with the workouts, as they provided both strength and conditioning.” What began as a small studio on Water Street in downtown Decorah eventually became a larger, shared facility with Reefuel, a cycling and yoga studio, on Railroad Street, also in Decorah.
The collaboration worked, said Bucksa. But then the pandemic hit. “Both studios were forced to shut down in March,” said Bucksa. Her studio, B. Fit, opened six weeks later with mandated safety precautions in place.
When it was announced Reefuel would not re-open, Bucksa chose to purchase its equipment and combine operations. “I saw a need in our community,” she said. Last autumn, B. Fit Studio, focusing on kettlebells and cardio, and the newly named Studio B, resuming cycle and yoga, were back in business.
Bucksa also added lululemon athletic wear for retail purchase, and notes she is the only retailer to provide the brand-name workout wear in northeast Iowa.
B. Fit, Bucksa noted, “has over 2200 square feet with plenty of room for social distancing. We’re teaching three to four classes a day to help spread members out as well.” Studio B, she added, has limited the number of bikes in the cycling room and the number of participants in each yoga class. Current fitness special details are available at www.bfitdecorah.com.
Bucksa is quick to thank the instructors and customers who have walked back in her doors or supported the business from home during the pandemic.
“I couldn’t be doing this without the support of those in the B. Fit and Studio B community,” said Bucksa. “I feel confident procedures are in place to provide a safe environment for people to continue their workouts. And workouts are not only physical. They’re about mental health as well. And that’s what keeps people coming.”
Those interested may contact Bucksa at bfitdecorah@gmail.com, find the studio on FB or call (651) 341-2512. Facilities are located at 105 Railroad Street, Decorah.
