‘Carrie: The Musical’ opens here Aug. 10

The production of “Carrie: The Musical” will be Aug. 10 to 13 in Decorah, with 7 p.m. performances scheduled on Thursday, Friday and Saturday; and a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Tickets are available in advance at newminowaplayers.ludus.com and locally at Oneota Community Food Co-op.

Each August, New Minowa Players presents a Young People’s Production featuring actors in junior high, high school, and college. “Carrie: The Musical” is the 2023 show.

Alex Kane will star as Carrie White, a teenage outcast who longs to fit in. Indigo Fish will play Margaret White, Carrie’s loving but cruelly controlling mother. Sue Snell, played by Mikayla Hiner, is the tour guide of the story, and Libby Phillips plays Tommy Ross, Sue’s boyfriend. Christine “Chris” Hargensen, played by Becca Kane, and Chris’s boyfriend Billy Nolan, played by Lucas Hanson, lead a group in taunting Carrie. Teachers Miss Gardner, played by Jenna Hartz, and Mr. Stephens, played by Patrick Gallagher, attempt to control the chaos, but Carrie has discovered she has a special power.
The cast is filled out with Gabe Hiner and Grace Stockman as interrogators, Leslie Campbell as Freida, Elliana Brodbeck as Norma, Colin Thompson as Freddy, and Emma Cline as Stokes.
“Carrie: The Musical” is based on the Steven King novel. Please be advised that this musical portrays subject matter including bullying, domestic abuse, and murder and thus may not be suitable for young children.
The show will be performed Aug. 10-13 at the New Minowa Players Theatre, 906 South Mill Street, Decorah.

Children under age 13 must be accompanied by a parent.
