The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office and Allen/UnityPoint Health partnered with Luana Savings Bank and NICC to host a minimal facts child abuse disclosure training.

This training was specifically for schools and educators throughout Winneshiek County. The training was held at NICC in Calmar.  The training focused on how to handle an initial disclosure of abuse from a child.  Miranda Kracke, Forensic Interviewer at UnityPoint Health Waterloo-Allen Child Protection Center presented the training.  Nearly 60 educators from Saint Teresa Catholic School, Saint Benedict’s Catholic School, South Winneshiek and Decorah attended.

The Allen Child Protection Center exists to provide assistance to children and dependent adults who may be victims of abuse. The goal of the Allen Child Protection Center is to help make sure that children are not further victimized by the systems that are designed to protect them.

Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx said, “I commended all who attended on behalf of protecting children.  The reaction to and handling of a disclosure of abuse is vital to the mental health of a child, the criminal investigation and success in prosecution.”
