Chimney Swift viewing night May 21

The public is invited to join Winneshiek County Conservation at South Bear School near Decorah for a Chimney Swift Viewing Night on Sunday, May 21, at 8 p.m.

Naturalist Larry Reis will give a short presentation on chimney swifts. Then participants will watch a local population of chimney swifts perform their nightly flight routine as they dive, in their classic tornado dance, into the chimney.

No registration is required to attend this free event. South Bear School is located at 2248 South Bear Road, Decorah, IA 52101, just west of Decorah off of Highway 9 at the end of South Bear Road. Please carpool if possible and park on the right-hand side of the driveway. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket if you would like to sit on the grass. Bring binoculars if you have them.

Winneshiek County Conservation will partner with South Bear School for this event. As this event is located at a private residence, event organizers ask that visitors are respectful and responsible.
