Decorah Area Quilters meeting June 11

The Decorah Area Quilters will hold their tenth meeting of the year at ArtHaus in Decorah at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 11. After a welcome and introductions, members are encouraged to share show-and-tell projects.

The program for the evening is the Flying Geese block – a quilt block that can be a favorite or a dreaded nemesis. Mike Ellingsen will demonstrate six different methods to make this traditional block. Event organizers say participants should go home with inspiration to use on a future project.’/’

Members and the public are reminded that the fifth annual “Airing Out the Quilts” event in Decorah is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 11. Decorah Area Quilters are joining the NorthEast Iowa Quilters’ Guild in presenting this year’s event. Traditionally on the Thursday after the Fourth of July, this year’s celebration falls during the Winneshiek County Fair – with the hopes of drawing even more visitors to Decorah.

There also will be an opportunity for members to sign up to work a shift in the quilt area in the Community Building at the Winneshiek County Fair. Roxie Schnitzler is coordinating the effort.

Projects created for the “All That Glitters” challenge will be revealed at the July meeting. It is not too late to request your piece of gold lamé fabric to be used in this challenge.

The Decorah Area Quilters meet at ArtHaus at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month.
