Decorah City Manager Chad Bird will soon become the city manager of Burlington. Bird has served as Decorah city manager for just over nine years.
Bird is working with the Decorah City Council on a transition plan, but expects his first day on the job as Burlington’s new city manager to be Monday, April 5. The Burlington Council selected Mr. Bird from a group of three finalists, who went through interviews with city council, city staff and community leaders in late January. The City of Burlington noted that the three finalists “were highly qualified individuals of whom were recruited by Hinson Consulting, LLC of Washington, Iowa.”
“It is with a myriad of emotions I accept the position in Burlington. I am humbled to have been selected by the Burlington City Council for this position and very much look forward to working with the council, staff and residents in Burlington. At the same time, I am deeply honored to have been able to work so long with the council, staff and residents of Decorah. This is truly a gem of a community and I very proud of the work we have done here over the years.” said Bird.
Bird earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Valparaiso University and a Master of Public Administration from Drake University. He has twenty years’ experience in local government administration as a parks and recreation director and city manager.
