Deputy Smith joins Winneshiek Sheriff’s Office

Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office has hired Deputy Casey Smith of Decorah.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office recently hired Deputy Casey Smith of Decorah.

Smith comes to the sheriff’s office as an experienced, certified law enforcement officer. He grew up in Decorah, and graduated from Decorah High School in 2011. He attended Waldorf University (formerly Waldorf College), where he played baseball and graduated in 2015 with Magna Cum Laude honors with a degree in Criminal Justice.In September 2015 he was hired by the Decorah Police Department. In April 2016 Deputy Smith graduated the 266th class of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy at Camp Dodge Military Base in Johnston, and has served the community of Decorah as a police officer ever since. In his free time he enjoys spending time with family, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, hunting, and playing golf. He will continue to serve on the Winneshiek County Joint Special Response Team of which he has been a member for the past four years.

At the Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors meeting Monday, Winneshiek County Sheriff Dan Marx noted with this hire, the Sheriff’s Office was now fully staffed with 11 deputies and himself.  He also thanked the Supervisors for their support of his office and staff.
