A vendor event with a unique twist returns to Decorah for the fourth time on Sunday, Jan. 30. Area eighth graders and their families will join local organizers to host a Valentine’s vendor event. The event is a fundraiser for the students’ educational trip to Washington, D.C. this summer.
The event originated when local organizers noticed a lack of group fundraising opportunities for students participating in the trip. A core group has been organizing the event for the past four years. “I have enjoyed being able to help! I believe the event is a great opportunity for students not to not only raise money for their trip but also to improve and grow life skills like communication, business management and responsibly,” said event organizer Tara McConnell.
A majority of vendor spaces are full, and many vendors are making personal donations above their required fee. Meanwhile, the eighth-grade vendors learn about budgeting, marketing, fundraising, logistics and event management.
The event will be held in the new community building at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., sponsored by Kymar Acres. Admission is free and donations to help the students’ efforts are accepted.
