Folk Art at the Fest

The August 17 Public Opinion E-edition includes an exclusive three page photo feature of folk art demonstrations hosted by Vesterheim during Nordic Fest 2023.

Included in the photo feature is Mike Hughes of Burnsville, Minn, demonstrating Norwegian-style Acanthus carving that featured stylized deeply cut flowers and leaves of the Acanthus plant. Hughes learned his craft in 2008 under the tutelage of Vesterheim Museum Gold Medalist Hans Sandom, an immigrant from Foldal, Norway.
