Gammel Dag, the annual Scandinavian Midsummer Celebration held in Peterson, Minn., will be held Saturday, June 22, with a full day of family-friendly events scheduled.
Parade and activities
Kick off the day with a hometown parade, featuring floats, Nordic Dancers and local organizations that celebrate the community. Afterward, meet at the bandstand to watch or join in the folk dances demonstrated by Decorah’s Nordic Dancers.
Activities after the parade include a dunk tank, games, a craft show, an art show featuring more than 20 Nordic artists and Nordic wood-carving demonstrations.
Attendees are encouraged to visit the museum to meet renowned Nordic woodcarvers Ray Kjos of Rushford, Minn., and Marlyn Harley Langseth of Minneiska, Minn.
All-school reunion band concert
A special Peterson all-school reunion band concert will be held from 3 to 4 p.m., at the bandstand featuring retired Peterson band director Maynard Thompson. Brats and hot dogs will be available during the concert, and Burdey’s Café opens at 6 p.m., to serve family and friends.
Memorial Garden
Behind the Peterson Museum, a new memorial garden in honor of Veteran and museum founder John Erickson will be open to the public.
