German Maifest returns to Pivo Brewery in Calmar

Guttenberg German Band.

The St. Lucas Historical Society announced the 2nd annual German Maifest at the Pivo Brewery on Saturday, May 4, from 12 to 4 p.m. to raise funds for the operation of the St. Lucas German-American Museum, Library and Family History Center and for improvements to its electrical system.

Maifest is the German celebration of the arrival of Spring with the decorated maypole (maibaum) decorated to show off the history and crafts of the local village or town.  Mayfest, like Octoberfest, has now become a popular fest throughout many American cities and towns celebrating elements of their German cultural heritage.

The Guttenberg German Band will provide musical entertainment from 1 to 4 p.m., and the St. Lucas Historical Society will serve a German style dinner starting at noon.  The meal includes roasted pork loin, turkey casserole, German potato salad and more.  “In addition, we are offering over 75 amazing baskets of new and antique items at our silent auction,” states Kathryn Kuennen.

There is no admission charge to this family friendly event. The Maifest party goes into the evening with the Bruce Bearinger Band from 6 to 9 p.m..  Gruess Gott, Guten Tag, Servus!
