IUB denies City’s complaint regarding MEU

On Monday, July 11, the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) declined to hear the City of Decorah’s complaint regarding utility data from Alliant, despite their own staff and the Office of Consumer Advocate recommending they do so.

According to Carly Hayden Foster, the Decorah MEU Taskforce chair, “This is not what we hoped the IUB would decide, but the work of our task force continues, and we are reassured that the Board’s decision included a reminder that they will require Alliant to provide accurate information to the community.”
The July 11 ruling from the IUB states that: “Should [Alliant] engage in the local process and put forth its own numbers, facts, or figures, as [Alliant] did prior to the previous Decorah municipalization vote, the Board would have the authority to ensure IPL was using the correct, most up-to-date information when speaking to customers.”
