In the Fillmore County District Court Thursday, June 8, Mindy Jones, now of Waterloo, was in attendance for her hearings and entered a plea of not guilty to 33 separate felony charges of theft, theft by check, theft by swindle, receiving stolen property and check forgery.
The charges allege that Jones had deposited 11 of the victim’s checks without the victim’s knowledge into various Harmony, Minn., bank accounts belonging to Jones or Jones’ business ventures, totaling $37,138.50. Jones had been living with the victim near Cresco at the time of the incidents.
In this matter, Jones is scheduled for a jury trial starting at 9 a.m. Oct. 9, in the Fillmore County District Courtroom in Preston, Minn.
In a separate matter, the Settlement Hearing for 14 counts of felony theft by swindle, theft by check, theft over $5,000 et al, Theft – take without consent and issue dishonored check was held the same day. Jones was charged for allegedly writing $34,000 in bad checks to the victim for merchandise received by Jones to be sold at Jones’ business in Harmony. This jury trial for Mindy Jones is scheduled for 9 a.m. June 20 in the Fillmore County District Courtroom in Preston.
The date for Jones’ non-jury trial was June 7 in the civil lawsuit in Chickasaw County brought for the $34,000 in bad checks, as above. It was reported Jones did not appear for this court date. Judge Richard Stochl is reviewing several exhibits and the evidence provided by the plaintiff and will provide a civil judgement in this matter.
Jones’ pretrial conference for the Allamakee County charges for Arson in the first degree and Animal Mistreatment in the matter of Jones’ Tin, Rust and Harmony store in Waukon destroyed by fire in February 2022 has been set for 9:30 a.m. Sept. 11 with a Jury Trial scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Oct. 4.
