A Saturday morning auction will be the end of an era, as the the North Winneshiek Schoo is to be sold.
The school building and contents will be auctioned off starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the North Winn Road property.
Burke Real Estate of Cresco is the company tasked with selling the facility. The parcel has been divided into three sections. Parcel No. 1 is the main building on approximately 11 acres. Parcel No. 2 is two acres including the old bus garage, and Parcel No. 3 is approximately 16.5 acres of land. The property will be offered as three parcels or as a whole. Open houses were conducted in October for those interested in the property to tour the facility and surrounding land.
The school is located at 3495 North Winn Road, approximately seven miles north of Decorah.
North Winn School closed three years ago, and the Decorah School District has been maintaining the property at an approximate cost of up to $100,000 per year.
The Decorah Community School Board will hold a special meeting Monday, Nov. 7, at 5 p.m. to approve or reject items selling for $5,000 or more.
