Reading Month celebrated locally

Reading Month is being observed by area students.

Last month students at West Side Early Childhood Center and John Cline Elementary School celebrated Reading Month.

West Side’s theme was farming – “We’re in the MOOOOD to Read,” and John Cline had a space theme – “Reading is Out of this World.” Each building’s students were offered a variety of educational and engaging activities throughout the month, including virtual kick-off assemblies, virtual guest readers, book giveaways, cross-curricular reading and science lessons, Bingo for Books, and lots of extra reading. Families had the opportunity to sign up for Make and Take Kits full of reading activities to complete with their families. These kits were generously funded by the Decorah PTO and Decorah Public Library.

Students celebrated a great month of reading with a special Read-In which included pajamas, flashlights, favorite books, and a very special ice cream treat.

“It was a great month of learning and fun,” remarked Shanna Putnam Dibble, Elementary Learner Advocate for the Deorah Community School District.
