Reports from the Winneshiek County Sheriff

Tamara Laganiere, 25, of Grand Meadow, Minn., was arrested and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail at 4:25 p.m. Jan. 23, after turning herself in on an arrest warrant for failure to serve jail time.

Dylan Sweet, 25, of Decorah, was cited for failure to maintain control following a single-vehicle accident Jan. 25 on River Road. Damages totaled $5,000 to Sweet’s vehicle and $3,500 to an Alliant Energy utility pole. Upon arrival at the scene, investigating officers found Sweet’s vehicle in the ditch near a broken utility pole. Sweet was reportedly eastbound on River Road past Drake Hill Road when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole. No airbags were deployed, and the driver complained of pain to his head but advised he did not need medical attention.

Jeremy R. Wemark, 47, of Calmar, was arrested Feb. 5 at 6:37 p.m. on 140th Street in Calmar and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail for aggravated domestic abuse assault, 2nd offense.

Ever Ramirez Martinez, 29 of Postville, was arrested Feb. 4 at 2:39 a.m. on Greene Street in Castalia, and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail for operating while under the influence, 2nd offense, and violation of a no-contact order.

Winneshiek Sheriff’s Office was called to an accident Jan. 10 on Iowa Highway 9 East. A vehicle driven by Donna Quam, 62, of Decorah, was traveling west on Highway 9, approaching 260th, when she signaled to make a right-hand turn. Her vehicle was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by 15-year-old Bryson Wemark of Ridgeway. Wemark was cited for following too close.  Damages totaled $4,000 to the 2010 Ford Edge SUV driven by Wemark and $3,500 to Wemark’s 2005 Pontiac Bonneville sedan. No injuries were reported.

Angel Salgado Morales, 29 of Cresco, was arrested Feb. 9 at 9:27 p.m. on Highway 52 near Decorah and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail for operating while under the influence. 

Jeremy Wemark, 47, of Calmar, was arrested Feb. 9 at 2347 County Road B32 in Fort Atkinson, and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail on an arrest warrant for violation of probation.

Parker Monroe, 22, of Cresco, was involved in a vehicle accident and subsequently arrested Feb. 11 at 1:05 a.m. on 130th Avenue near Castalia, and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail for operating while under the influence.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office received a report Feb. 5 of sexual abuse of a child and initiated an investigation. On Feb. 6, the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the residence of Gerald Holthaus, 72, on 164th Street near Castalia. Subsequently, on Feb. 8, charges were filed, and an arrest warrant was issued. Gerald Holthaus was arrested and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail for three counts of B felony sexual abuse 2nd degree.

Jonathan Huinker, 27, of Decorah, turned himself into the Winneshiek County Jail Feb. 7, on an arrest warrant for failure to provide fingerprints as ordered.

Gabriella Xiya, 18, of Decorah, was arrested and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail Feb. 13 after turning herself in on an arrest warrant for theft, third, possession/ctrl over $750 and under $1,500.
