Natassja Carroll, age 23, of West Union was booked into the Winneshiek County Jail at 4:25 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 on an arrest/bench warrant for failure to serve jail time and violation of probation. Information from the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office said Carroll was transported from Buchanan County to the Winneshiek County Jail.
Martha Day, age 65, of Decorah turned herself in to the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13. She was arrested on a warrant and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail for violation of a no contact order.
Jose Macias Torres, age 18, was booked into the Winneshiek County Jail at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14 to serve two consecutive days. Court records show Torres was granted a deferred judgement after pleading guilty to charges of second and third-degree criminal mischief and trespassing. The 18-year-old was charged in mid-October of 2023, after authorities became aware of vandalism at several locations in Decorah. Messages were spray painted on several buildings, including at least two churches, according to criminal complaints.
Ben Carter Lange, age 54, of Decorah was booked into the Winneshiek County Jail at 11:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 on the charge of operating while intoxicated — first offense. Information from the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office said Lange was involved in a single vehicle rollover at approximately 7:46 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 in the 3000 block of Bluffton Road in Decorah. A criminal complaint said Lange’s vehicle exited the roadway and came to rest on its roof. Lange admitted he had been at Toppling Goliath Brewing Company prior to the accident, and his blood alcohol concentration was later found to be more than twice the legal limit to operate a vehicle in Iowa. The complaint went on to say Lange was taken to WinnMed’s emergency room “to be medically cleared due to his injuries sustained in the accident.”
Melissa Marie Hageman, age 35, of Decorah was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn at approximately 5:13 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14 near the intersection of Highway 9 and Allan Drive Road in Decorah. Information from the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office said Hageman was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox Premier east along Highway 9 and attempted to turn left on to Allan Drive Road. A 2012 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 23-year-old Kaylie Elaine Rommes of Calmar was traveling west along the highway. The two vehicles collided. Neither driver reported injuries, according to the sheriff’s report. Approximately $3,500 in damage was reported to the Equinox, and about $8,000 in damage were reported to the Malibu.
Eli Swartzentruber, age 33, of Alta Vista was booked into the Winneshiek County Jail at noon on Saturday, Aug. 17 to serve 10 consecutive days. Court records show Swartzentruber pleaded guilty in a July 12 filing to violation of his probation.
All people listed may face charges and should be presumed innocent until their case is reviewed through the legal process.
