Brandon McConnell, 49, of Decorah, was cited for failure to have control following an accident Oct. 14 on Clay Hill Road near Decorah. An anonymous caller advised the Sheriff’s Office of a vehicle that may have been in a ditch on Clay Hill Road. The vehicle had crossed the center line and entered the ditch, grazed a right-turn sign, causing most of the damage to the right side of the pick-up truck. The vehicle had been abandoned after traveling approximately 125 feet into standing corn, causing damage to the corn. Damages were estimated at $3,000 to McConnel’s vehicle, and $300 to the county road sign and corn field owned by Adam Hemesath of Decorah.

Chris Williams, 60, of Calmar, was cited for failure to maintain control following an accident Oct. 14 on County Road B16. Williams was reportedly eastbound on County Road B16, and failed to traverse a left-hand turn, entering the ditch. The investigating officer reported the vehicle took out a turn arrow sign, crossed Timber Road and took out a stop sign before entering the ditch where it came to rest. The driver reportedly left the scene before law enforcement arrived. Damages were estimated at $3,500 to Williams’ vehicle, and $500 to the county-owned road signs.

Virginia Clement, 70 of Decorah was cited for failure to yield upon making a left turn following an accident Oct. 9 on County Road W42. Clement was traveling east on Highway 9, coming to the intersection of County Road W42. Clement turned onto W42 in front of a vehicle driven by 50-year-old Jeffrey Wemark of Ridgeway. Damages totaled an estimated $11,000. Clement had possible injuries and was transported by EMS to WinnMed in Decorah.

Ryan Vaughn, 41, of Fort Atkinson, was transported from the Floyd County Jail to the Winneshiek County Jail Oct. 9 on an arrest warrant for contempt, resist order/process in magistrate court.

Bradley McCarroll, 53, of Cresco, was arrested and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail Oct. 15 on an arrest warrant for failure to serve jail time. 

Scott Fjelstul, 35, of Ridgeway, was arrested and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail on Oct. 13 on an arrest warrant for failure to serve jail time.

Jessica Yerrington, 37, of Calmar, was cited for failure to maintain control and failure to provide proof of financial liability following an accident on US Highway 52 Oct. 16.

Investigating officers reported they received a report of a vehicle in the ditch near 2355 US Highway 52. Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle in the east ditch and observed tracks starting in the southbound lane showing the car slid sideways from the right shoulder into the left ditch. It appeared the driver had run into two mailboxes, a trash can and a power box, then over-corrected and slid into the left ditch where it hit an old fence post. Approximately $5,000 in damages were reported to Yerrington’s 2005 Chevy Malibu sedan, $200 in damages to a mailbox and garbage can owned by Chad Auer, $200 in damages to a power box owned by REC Electric, $100 in damages to a fence post owned by Sharon Folkedahl  and $150 in damages to a mailbox owned by Ronald Rude. Minor, non-incapacitating injuries were reported. 

Michael Schissel, 44, of Calmar, was arrested Oct. 21 in Calmar and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail for serious misdemeanor domestic abuse assault – injury.
