Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig visited Winneshiek County Thursday, June 8, as part of his annual 99 county tour.  Naig toured a wetland project near Fort Atkinson, where he met and spoke with landowners and key project personnel for more than an hour.

The project is part of the Turkey River Watershed Project, which was established to monitor water quality due to increasing nitrate concentrations in the water supplies.  Naig enthusiastically praised the project, saying, “Watersheds like these are intelligently designed, and we are really getting good at this!” He assured the group, “You keep doing work and we will keep sending you resources!”

The Fort Atkinson watershed project installation is slated to be completed by late summer.
