Supervisors tackle public hearings

By Kate Klimesh,

The Winneshiek County Supervisors Monday, Oct. 9, saw several public hearings on the agenda, along with a brief discussion on flood insurance.

A public hearing was scheduled for a requested vacation of Conover Road for Monday, Oct. 30, at 10:30 a.m., in the Courthouse Annex Building. Resident Devin Creek has requested vacation of the road right-of-way that currently cuts through a corner of his front yard. The lines have moved over the years and the edge is now through the western edge of his property.

The public hearing on the sale of land-locked, county-owned lots in Spillville was held Monday, with no public comment received. Following the hearing, two bids on the property were opened – one bid for just one parcel and another bid with prices for each parcel. The supervisors unanimously approved accepting the highest bid received for each parcel. Spillville residents Jerry and Faith Lacey were awarded the first parcel, while Spillville’s Andrew Hackman was awarded the second parcel. Details in the the October 12 Public Opinion.
