Support Sheena – fundraiser for local woman on now

On February 9, 2024 Sheena (Blaess) Dix was airlifted from WinnMed Decorah to Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minn. after suffering a brain bleed/hemorrhagic stroke that affected her entire left side. Following a craniotomy, Sheena spent three weeks in Saint Mary’s Intensive Care & Neuro Units, regaining strength and motor/speech functions through various therapies before transferring to intensive therapy at Unity Point-Allen Hospital’s Acute Inpatient RehabilitationCenter in Waterloo.

A Bluffton native, Sheena graduated from North Winneshiek High School before attending Northeast Iowa Community College. She has live in Decorah for the past 20 years and has a teenage daughter, Livia. In November 2022, Sheena joined Helms Funeral Home and is attending DMACC for Mortuary Science while working as an Associate. Her goal is to be a licensed Funeral Director.

Sheena has touched many lives in Decorah and the surrounding communities through her 14 years in elder care/social work, serving residents of Aase Haugen Senior Services and Barthel Eastern Star/Arlan Falk Assisted Living. She also assists community members with end-of-life care and planning (Full Sirkel Solutions) and was a long-time member of Decorah’s Alpha Sigma chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority.

Sheena has made tremendous progress toward recovery but has a challenging road ahead. Friends are organizing/accepting donations to assist with medical expenses and ongoing needs as she continues outpatient therapy and recovery in Decorah over the next several months.
