Temporary services secured as search for full-time engineer continues

By Kate Klimesh,

The Winneshiek County Supervisors approved the assignment of temporary, part-time engineering services effective immediately through Jan. 31, 2024, or until no longer needed, in an agreement with Howard County Board of Supervisors and Howard County Engineer Nick Rissman at the Aug. 14 Board of Supervisors meeting.

Rissman is a licensed professional engineer in the State of Iowa and will perform services as necessary for the continued operation of the Winneshiek County Engineer’s Office during their search for a full-time engineer to fill the vacancy of Lee Bjerke, who resigned his position and ended employment in late June.

Rissman will perform as a part-time Winneshiek County employee at the base rate of $115 per hour, plus mileage accrued for an outside vehicle and other expenses that may occur. Hours spent in Winneshiek County will be in addition to his regularly-kept hours in Howard County.

Also during the meeting, the board voted to reopen application process for the County Engineer position through Aug. 31, while they attempt to select a professional search firm to assist in finding applicants for the vacant position.
