Ten county roads won’t receive winter maintenance

By Zach Jensen,

Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors heard reports from the county engineer’s office Monday, Nov. 18.

Ten county roads won’t receive winter maintenance services this winter. Winneshiek County Engineer Michael Kueny said no one lives on those particular stretches of road, no livestock is located on the roadways and power lines don’t run through the areas. The roads include 365th Street from W20 to 258th Avenue; 318th Avenue from Iowa Highway 139 to the end of the road; 134th Avenue from 170th Street to 1608 134th Avenue; 205th Street from Glenville Road to end of the road; 128th Street from Iowa Highway 24 to 315th Avenue; 345th Avenue from County Road V64 to 150th Street; 165th Street from Middle Ossian Road to County Road W42; 320th Avenue from 200th Street to 210th Street; 335th Avenue from Dusty Road to 180th Street. The impacted roads will be marked with signs.

The county engineer’s office is teaming up with the Missouri University of Science and Technology, University of Wisconsin – Platteville and Iowa State University to conduct load studies on the county’s rail-car bridges. Kueny said it might be discovered that rail-car bridges are not as sturdy as once thought.
