Winneshiek County Veterans’ names are still being accepted for inclusion on memorial stones at the upcoming Veterans Memorial planned at Mary Christopher Park in Decorah.

Winneshiek County Veterans’ names are still being accepted for inclusion on memorial stones at the upcoming Veterans Memorial planned at Mary Christopher Park in Decorah. The stones have been ordered but will not yet be engraved until the Winneshiek County Veterans Memorial Committee submits a list of names to the engravers.
The Decorah Genealogy Association has already found thousands of names of Winneshiek Veterans including eight soldiers from the War of 1812, a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, and a calvary soldier who died with Custer at Little Big Horn.
To include a Winneshiek County Veteran’s name in the memorial, visit www.winneshiekvetsmemorial.org, and click on “Adding Veteran Names” to fill out the online Google survey, be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. The website also has links to donate to the memorial project, as well as computer generated plans for the space.
