Water and sewer rate increases delayed

By Denise Lana,

It was discovered that both ordinances had incorrect starting rates.

Decorah City Council recently approved two ordinances regarding water and sewer rate increases for Decorah residences, but it was discovered that both ordinances had incorrect starting rates, using 2021 figures instead of using the FY 2022 rates. To amend this error, the ordinance has been rewritten to reflect the correct FY2022 beginning rates.
The first hearing was voted on and passed during the council’s regular meeting June 20. The council was asked to waive the second and third readings of the ordinances to meet the July 1 implementation of both rate increases, but was met with mixed votes from the council members.
The second and third readings will take place during the council’s next two meetings, July 5 and July 19, respectively. The new rate increases using the correct data, once fully adopted, will go into effect Aug. 1.
