Following a lengthy investigation by the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office, a search warrant was conducted Dec. 7 at the northern Winneshiek County residence of Boyd Middlebrook, age 58, of Cresco. As a result of this investigation, Middlebrook was charged with aggravated misdemeanor theft, 3rd degree and three counts of trespass, 1st offense. The Iowa State Patrol assisted the Sheriff’s Office.
A vehicle versus cow accident was investigated on Dec. 16. Investigating officers reported a silver 2010 GMC Sierra pick-up was disabled within the travel portion of northbound lane of U.S. Highway 52. The deceased cow was in the west ditch south of 3124 U.S. Highway 52, with debris littered on the roadway. Jack Hrdlicka, age 58 of Decorah, was driving the vehicle northbound on U.S. 52 when the vehicle struck the black calf on the roadway. The road was wet and visibility was less due to the fog in the area. Hrdlicka and his passenger, Tiffany Hrdlicka, age 50, of Decorah, declined medical treatment and denied injuries. The investigating officer arrived at the home of Wayne and Pamela Wicks at 3124 U.S. Highway 52, and observed eight calves loose on the property. A gate was found open in the cattle yard. The owners were notified, and the officer remained on the scene until the cattle were rounded up. Damages totaled $14,000 to Hrdlicka’s truck and $1,000 for Wicks’ calf.
Jeremy Snell, age 41, of Decorah, was transported from Waterloo to the Winneshiek County Jail Dec. 20 where he was arrested and booked on an arrest warrant for harassment, 1st degree, threaten forcible felony and contempt – violation of no contact/protective order.
Gretchen Conway, age 48, of Ossian, was arrested at 205 S. Maryville Street in Calmar on Dec. 20 at 8:28 p.m. and booked into the Winneshiek County Jail for operating while under the influence.
