Yoga group giving back

Event planned June 26 at Ridgeway Park

In the spirit of giving, unity and community, an upcoming Yoga for Charity event is planned at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at Ridgeway Park.
The event is free. Free will donations are accepted with all proceeds going to the Ridgeway First Responders for new equipment purchases (including pediatric devices for responders’ health bags).
Yoga for Charity is a local team of fitness instructors who love what they do and want to give back to the community.
Participants will work on mobility, breath, core strength and mental wellness in a fun and inviting yoga class that benefits a predetermined charity in the area.
Event organizers are Charis Hovden of Ridgeway and Heidi Rockweiler of Decorah.
“We’re excited to gather outdoors for our next event June 26,” event organizers said.
Hovden is a 200-hour certified Yoga Teacher and has been guiding yoga for six years. According to Hovden, “I truly enjoy guiding the breath-to-movement practice of yoga. Being involved with Yoga for Charity is a wonderful opportunity for Heidi and I to share the yoga journey, give back to our community, and help benefit others.”
Rockweiler has been a yoga instructor for six years and a kettlebell instructor for 13 years.
“One of my favorite things to do is combine my years of experience and create an event that ultimately gives back to the community. When you feel good, you do good. When you do good, you feel good.”

Good causes
Past Yoga for Charity events have helped Project Linus, a blanket drive for children, and Project Care Iowa. In 2020, Hovden and Rockweiler hosted a yoga event at the Freeport Park with donations toward protective sun gear for the Aase Haugen residents.
