Agnes Soukup

Agnes Frances (Kriener) Soukup, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep, May 14, 2023, at Accura Nursing Home in Cresco.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 19, at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Father Henry Huber presiding.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church Friday morning.

Anges was born April 15, 1933, on a farm Northwest of St Lucas. She was the third child born to Christopher and Cecillia (Kruse) Kriener. She graduated from St. Luke’s Catholic School in St. Lucas, IA in 1951. Growing up on the family farm, she learned all the aspects of gardening, milking cows, slopping hogs, feeding chickens, cleaning chickens, shucking corn, shocking oats, harnessing horses, driving tractors and whatever else that came along.

Aggie married Clarence Soukup Sept. 24, 1952, at St Luke’s Catholic Church. She continued farming with Clarence on his family farm Southwest of Ridgeway for 45 years until he died Nov. 22, 1997. She did furniture upholstery and refinishing for family, friends, and the community for over 50 years. They raised thousands of capons for Wapsi Produce, as well as beef cattle, hogs, laying hens, and ducks.

In her younger years Aggie loved to play softball. She loved dancing, playing cards, sewing, quilting, deer hunting, fishing, and visiting with family and friends. She loved going to Tyler’s baseball games and yelling at the Umpires, also Martina’s dance performances and competitions. She loved her dog, Daisy.

She and Clarence were faithful members of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, where she helped welcome new parishioners, served as a Eucharistic Minister and a guild officer, and she also enjoyed being in the church choir.

 Agnes is survived by her daughters: Marilyn Jones of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Sherry (David) Leitz of Cresco; her grandchildren: Richard (Aimee) Jones of Cedar Fall, IA, Barbra Olszowka of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Tyler McIntosh of Denver, Colo., and Martina McIntosh of Decorah; also one great-grandson: Angel Lawson of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; two sisters: Rita Gerleman of Calmar and Ann (Jack) Herold of Ft Atkinson; one brother: Clarence Kriener of Lawler; and sisters-in-law: Leona Kriener, Connie Kriener, and Trish Kriener.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Clarence, her parents, Christopher and Cecillia Kriener, Clarence’s parents, Martin and Ludmilla (Holub) Soukup, her sister: Irene Schmitt, brothers: Luke Kriener, Urban Kriener, and Marvin Kriener, brothers-in-law: Vern Schmitt and Paul Gerleman, a sister-in-law, Geniece Kriener, and one son-in-law, Robert Jones.
