Alice Mae Kimber

Alice Mae Kimber died Jan. 22, 2019. Funeral services are at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at the Burr Oak Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, with the Rev. Matt Larson officiating. Fellowship is in the church basement following the service. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday, prior to services at the church. Burial is at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, in the Burr Oak Cemetery. Alice Mae Kimber was born May 25, 1936, to Joe and Mary (Saueressig) Muchow of Luana, the fourth of five children. She attended area schools prior to meeting and marrying Charles (Chuck) Kimber Dec. 22, 1954. At that time she moved to the Burr Oak area, where she and Chuck raised six children on their family farm.

Alice shared in the farming operation and when they had spare time, they both enjoyed many hours fishing on the Mississippi River as well family time playing cards and games.

Alice also was active in her church lady’s group, helping with quilting, rug making and doing embroidery. Many of her dishtowel sets were sold at the Burr Oak Lutheran church bazaars over the years.

Upon retirement from farming, Chuck and Alice moved to Canton, Minn., where they shared a home until Chuck’s passing March 30, 2013.

Sometime after, Alice moved to the Harmony Care Center, Harmony, Minn., where she made many friends and shared her embroidery and coloring projects with other residents and staff as well as her family. She greatly enjoyed activity time, especially playing Sparkle with her fellow residents.

Alice resided in the Harmony Care Center until her death Jan. 22, 2019.

Alice is survived by children: Debra Douglas, Flower Mound, Texas; Barb (Brad) Kerns, Canton, Minn.; Loren Kimber, Lansing; Steve (Jean) Kimber, Cresco; Al Kimber, Wichita, Kan. and Linda Kimber, Rochester, Minn.; grandchildren: Chris (Ana) Moore, Denton, Texas; Scott Moore, (Allyson Harbour), Lewisville, Texas; Jennifer Rhodes, (Mike James), Alvord, Texas; Cassie Olson (Brandon Nord), Mabel, Minn.; Jordan (Katie) Kerns, Preston, Minn.; Marie Kimber, Postville; Kristy Kimber, Waukon; Valarie Kimber, Waukon; Lori Kimber, Elkader; Nicole Kimber, (Pete Schnitzler) Cresco; Ryan Kimber, (Lauren Sharp), Ridgeway; Evan Kimber, (Alyssa Botkin) Dassel, Minn.; Amanda (Travis) Nesburg, Cresco; Matthew Kimber, (Madysen Huffman), Wichita, Kan. and Emily Kimber, Wichita, Kan.; as well as 24 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by one brother, Donald (Linda) Muchow, Postville; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and one brother.
