Allen Rude, 49, of Decorah, died Monday, June 27, 2016, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, after a short battle with cancer. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 30, at Cresco Community Chapel in Cresco, with Rev. Dave Wolfinger officiating. Pianist was Mary Steen. Hymns were “Be Still my Soul” and “Amazing Grace.” Soloist was Marcia Murray (“His Eye is on the Sparrow”). Special music was by Sue Lenz, clarinet, “There is a Fountain.” Honorary casket bearers were all of Allen’s co-workers at Gemini. Casket bearers were Mark Lenz, Steve Quam, David Lenz, Kyle Quam, Matt Strathman and Nic Rude. Interment was at Phelps Cemetery, Decorah.
Allen Jeffrey Rude was born July 19, 1966, the son of William and Dorothy (Hoffman) Rude in Decorah. Allen attended Decorah Community Schools and graduated from the Calvary Baptist Academy in 1985. He received his GED and took auto mechanics classes at Northeast Iowa Area Community College (NICC) in Calmar. Allen was married to Becky Gjere and they had two sons, Cory and Darin, and later divorced. Allen worked for Weis Buick and Olsgard Auto as a mechanic. He also worked at NAPA and then at Gemini in Decorah. Allen enjoyed working and restoring cars, going camping and computers.
Allen is survived by his two sons, Cory and Darin Rude, Decorah; his father, William “Bill” (Marian) Rude, Decorah; one brother, Robert (Sharon) Rude, Coralville; two sisters, Susan (Mark) Lenz, Harmony, Minn., and Karen (Steve) Quam, Decorah; nieces and nephews: Katy and Nic (fiancé Hayley Ross) Rude, David (friend, Brianna Olson) and Rachel Lenz, Kyle (Stacey) Quam, Heather (Matt) Strathman and Samantha Quam; great-nieces and –nephews, Brooke, Elijah, Lily, Zander and Jeremiah; aunt, Charlotte Aswegan, Decorah.
Allen was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy (Hoffman) Rude, June 20, 2015; his grandparents: Harold and Caroline (Plear) Hoffman and Arnold and Lily (Larson) Rude; two uncles, Robert Hoffman and Harold (Mary) Hoffman Jr.; aunt, Norma (Walter) Hilberg.
