Anita Hesse, 50, of Decorah, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at her home after a long battle with kidney disease. Services were at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 6, at Decorah Lutheran Church, with Rev. Brenda Crossfield officiating. Special music was “How Great Thou Art,” “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “Free Bird.” Interment is at Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
Anita Lynn Hesse was born July 5, 1967, the daughter of Raymond and Judy (Drievold) Koshatka in La Crosse, Wis. She attended Decorah High School. Anita married Steven Hesse and together they had five daughters: Heidi, Hayley, Carissa, Mariah and Megan. Anita worked at Swedes as a bartender and Nob Hill as the bar manager. She later worked at Casey’s General Store on College Drive. Anita loved being outdoors; she enjoyed camping and canoeing with family and close friends. She also enjoyed fishing, playing poker, watching movies, playing pool and spending time with her friends and family. She was very proud of her girls and her grandchildren.
Anita is survived by her five daughters: Heidi (Michael) Reed, Decorah; Hayley (Allen) Massman, Calmar; Carissa (Jacob Howe) Hesse, Waukon; Mariah Hesse, Centerville; and Megan (Chad Meyer) Hesse, Waukon; parents, Raymond and Judy Koshatka, Decorah; sister, Tonya (Tory) Hughes, Ankeny; six grandchildren: Braden and Raelyn Massman, Ava and Tristan Reed, Landon and Carter Howe; grandparents, Mavis and Darrell Frey, Decorah; nieces and nephew: Kylah, Kailan, Kendrie and Keegan Hughes.
Anita was preceded in death by her grandparents, Kenneth Drievold and Raymond and Louann Koshatka.
