Arla M. Kubik

Arla M. Kubik of Decorah, 81, of Decorah, died Thursday evening, June 11, 2015, at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco. Memorial services were at 4 p.m. Monday, June 15, at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, with Rev. David Sorensen officiating. Inurnment was in Union Prairie Cemetery in rural Decorah Saturday, June 20. Visitation was 2-4 p.m. Monday, June 15, at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah.  Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah served the family. Online condolences may be made at fjelstul.com.

Arla Mae (Folkedahl) Kubik was born Aug. 10, 1933, in the Spring Grove Hospital in Spring Grove, Minn., the daughter of Norton M. and Henrietta Dorothea Irene (Severide) Folkedahl. She was baptized Aug. 27, 1933, at Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church by Rev. Heltne. Her sponsors were Oscar and Amanda Severide and Janet Thorson. Arla was confirmed Dec. 14, 1947, at Decorah Lutheran Church, by Rev. M. A. Egge and Rev. Sundby. She graduated from Decorah High School May 24, 1951, with the Class of 1951. Arla was united in marriage to Walter Kubik Jan. 3, 1954, in Caledonia, Minn. and later divorced. This union was blessed with six children: Terry, Paula, Kim, Karla, Steve and Mike. Arla worked many years with her husband Walter, running the family business, Refrigeration Supply Corporation. She also worked at Vick’s Tavern, Boikes Country Inn Restaurant in Ossian, and Viking One Stop convenience store in Decorah. She was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church. Arla enjoyed crossword puzzles and Sudoku, bowling, going to casinos (and winning) and cooking for family get-togethers.

Arla is survived by five children: Paula Cheever of Jackson, Mo., Kim (Rob) Gossman of Decorah, Karla (Todd) Farland of Forest CitySteve (Penni) Kubik of Frankville and Mike (Melinda) Kubik of Charles City,; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four sisters: Sharon Folkedahl of Glendale, Ariz., Lois Lembcke of Saukville, Wis., Colleen (Lloyd) Gossman of Decorah and Diane Lynne Folkedahl of Decorah; and one brother, Vincent (Bev) Folkedahl of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her father, Norton, Jan. 29, 1980; her mother, Irene, May 21, 1988; one son, Terry, April 9, 2001; three brothers: Dale, Dec. 9, 1965, Dennis, Dec. 23, 2007 and Nels, May 23, 2015; and by one nephew, Russell Folkedahl, July 18, 1987.
