Barbara Houdek, age 81, passed away June 29, 2023 at Aase Haugen surrounded by her family members.

Her Celebration of Life will be held at the Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago St, Decorah, IA, on July 21, 2023, with a gathering from 11 a.m. to noon, and a church service to follow.

Barb Marie, the daughter of Norman and Mable Stigen, was born on September 12, 1941 in Spring Grove, MN. After graduating from Spring Grove High School, she married David Houdek at age 19. They started their family right away and were blessed with three children. She worked for Wellington Place for over 35-plus years before retiring.

Barb enjoyed dancing with her husband and many friends, playing bridge and 500, walking, baking and trying new recipes for her card clubs. Barb smiled when she saw you and her eyes would just sparkle. Her thoughtfulness was unbounded by sending special occasion cards for birthdays, anniversaries and holidays. Barb was a woman beyond compare.

Barb is survived by her husband David Houdek, 87, of Cresco, IA; her children Tim (Joyce) Houdek of Decorah, IA, and Dawn Houdek Walz of Hastings, MN; grandchildren Michael (Melanie) Dana of Des Moines, IA, Chris (Gabriella Marques) of Lansing, IA, Danielle Walz of Black Mountain, NC, Jacob Walz of Hastings, MN; and great-grandchildren Brennan and McKinley Dana of Des Moines, IA and Shelby and Hunter Marques of Lansing, IA. She was proceded in death by her parents, grandparents, sister Aletta (Dave) Severson and her son Kent Houdek.
