Calvin “Chuck” Wright, 91, of Dorchester, died Friday, May 29, 2015, at his home. Memorial services are Saturday, June 6, at 11 a.m., at Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church in rural Dorchester, with Rev. Allen Hermeier officiating. Burial of ashes is at Waterloo Ridge Cemetery at a later date. Friends may greet the family from 10 a.m. until time of service and again following the service at the church Saturday. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon is handling arrangements.

Calvin Eugene “Chuck” Wright was born Aug. 20, 1923, in Ossian, the son of George Albert and Lettie Christine (Strand) Wright. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. When he was young Chuck’s family rented several area farms so they moved often and he attended several area rural elementary schools and Waukon and Spring Grove High Schools. Following school he farmed with his dad. He later worked at a number of jobs including having a laundry route out of Waterloo, operating skating rinks in Ossian and Spring Grove, Minn., and operating the Crystal Inn in Burr Oak. He married Donna Jeanne Gilberg at Tamarack Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Wis., June 19, 1955. Chuck and Jeanne bought the farm in rural Dorchester (where they still live) in 1955, and milked cows and raised hogs, chickens, sheep and grains. Chuck was a member of Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church and a former member of the Eitzen Creamery Board. He and Jeanne have both been active volunteers at Camp Winnebago. Although he enjoyed working with motorcycles and anything that had wheels, he devoted most of his time an interest to his work.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne, of Dorchester; three children: Todd of Waukon, Jay of Dorchester, and Mary Lynn (Steve) Herold of Monona; seven grandchildren: Candace, Chad, June, Adalena, Bradley and Thaddeus Herold and Penny (Mathew) Fiedler; three great-grandchildren: Maverick, Kendric and Braxton; a sister-in-law, Bayonne Wright, of Decorah; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Gunderson, of Mabel, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Vernon; and two sisters, Norma (Lawrence) Hopperstad and Maxine Gunderson.
