Carl Hjelmeland, 73, of Decorah, died Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society in Waukon. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23, at the Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago Street in Decorah, with Rev. Allen Vik presiding. Burial is in the Springwater Cemetery north of Decorah. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Ave in Decorah and also after 10 a.m. at the church Thursday morning. The Schluter-Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is handling arrangements. Carl is survived by his wife, Linda, of Decorah; daughters, Ann (Don) Neuzil, Waukon and Jennifer Hjelmeland, Decorah; grandchildren: Jamie Holzer, Amie (friend, Wyatt Anderson) Holzer, Tamie Holzer and Shawn Holzer; great-granddaughter, Raylee Rose Anderson; brothers: Harold Hjelmeland, Kokomo, Ind., Lester (Arla) Hjelmeland, Winona, Minn. and Norman (Patricia) Hjelmeland, Urbandale; brothers-in-law, Gerald (Lorna) Engen, Andover, Minn. and Vincent (Carolyn) Engen, Aurora, Ill.; sister-in-law, Sharon (Dale) Roher, Decorah; along with many nieces and nephews.
