Carmen Heying, 63, of Cresco, passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 16, 2019, at her daughter’s home in Cresco, following a very brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Funeral services were at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, with Deacon Jim Zajicek officiating. Friends called Sunday, Oct. 20, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Lindstrom Funeral Home and for an hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.

Carmen was born Dec. 21, 1955, in Cresco, to Raymond and Loretta (Vopava) Vokaty. She graduated from Notre Dame high school in Cresco in 1974. Carmen was a bookkeeper for various businesses throughout her life. The last few years she helped the Decorah Elks Lodge with their fish fries.

Carmen’s grandkids and family were her primary interest – especially attending events and activities they were participating in. She also enjoyed Sudoku puzzles, Nascar, reading and keeping up on world events. She loved traveling, especially to see the mountains or a beach. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Carmen’s compassionate and caring personality touched everyone she knew.

Carmen is survived by two daughters, Stacey (Troy) Knox of Decorah and Stephanie (Dale) Dennler of Cresco; three grandchildren: Logan Monteith, Nathan Monteith and Ella Dennler; her mother, Loretta Vokaty of Cresco; a brother, Alan (Roxann) Vokaty and their son, Shane of Cresco.

Carmen was preceded in death by her father, Raymond.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Wanda and Randy Rice and Gayle and Jerry Jirak for all their support and love.
