Carolyn Mikkelson

Carolyn Mikkelson, 74, of Decorah, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, at her home. Services were at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 7, at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, with Rev. Chad Huebner officiating. Organist was Brad Schultz. Hymns were “Beautiful Savior,” “On Eagles Wings” and “In the Garden.” Casket bearers were Dolan Craine, Anders Mikkelson, Colten Mikkelson, Sarah Mikkelson, Ron Vick and Darrell Vick. Interment will be at Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah, in the spring. Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah.

Carolyn Joan (Vick) Mikkelson was born July 10, 1942, to Norman and Mildred (Johnson) Vick. She was baptized at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church. Carolyn graduated from Decorah High School in 1960. Carolyn married Norman Mikkelson June 8, 1963, at the Glenwood Lutheran Church. To this union three children were born: Lisa, Eric and Marc. Carolyn worked at Town and Country Jewelry, Wisconsin Dairy, Bruening Rock Products, Decorah State Bank, Happiness Is and the Whippy Dip. She enjoyed volunteering at the hospital and the American Cancer Society, quilting, golf, dancing at Matters in her younger years, listening to country music, camping, playing cards, bowling, Facebook, having breakfast with friends and attending family activities. Carolyn was a member of the First Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Martha Circle, former board member at Silvercrest Country Club and was a Fire Bell for 25 years.

Carolyn is survived by her children: One daughter: Lisa (Donal) Craine, Carver, Minn.; two sons, Eric (Ann) Mikkelson, Salina, Kans., and Marc (Jennifer) Mikkelson, Decorah; seven grandchildren: Dolan Craine; Anders, Alyssa and Lauryn Mikkelson; Colten, Sarah and Rachel Mikkelson; siblings: LeRoy (Bernice) Vick, Marion; Roger (Randi) Vick, Caledonia, Minn.; Ronald Vick, Prairie du Chien, Wis.; Darrell Vick, Decorah; Curtis (Jan) Vick, Decorah; and Marcella (David) Tveter, Rosemount, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine (Lee) Charles, Las Vegas, Nev.; and Lois (Nate) Marty, Madison, Wis.; along with many nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, July 19, 2011; parents, Norman and Mildred (Johnson) Vick; her father and mother-in-law, Lauritz “Mike” and Laura (Gerhardson) Mikkelson.
