Catherine Kappes

Catherine Ann Kappes, 77 of Cresco died May 1, 2017, at Hawkeye Care Center in Cresco from a short illness of cancer. She was born September 5, 1939, daughter of Raymond and Mayme Koudelka Clynch.  On November 26, 1958, she married Neil Vincent Kappes at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Lourdes, Iowa.

Kathy graduated from Cresco High School in 1957 and following graduation she moved to Cresco and began working at the Elm Street Café where she met Neil.  Following their marriage, they lived in Decorah and Kathy worked at the Springer Hotel & Restaurant.  Neil and Kathy moved to Ridgeway, living there for six years followed by a move to a farm south of Schley where they resided until settling into the Hawkeye Care Center in December 2016.

Kathy enjoyed milking cows until 1988 when her youngest sons took over the dairy operation and she began to work at the Howard County Care Facility as a nurses aide retiring in 2005.

Kathy was a loving wife and caregiver to Neil and a wonder mom, grandma and great-grandma.  She enjoyed time spent with her family and made sure no one went hungry.

Survived by: her husband Neil and four children: Gary, Eagan, MN; Karen Ptacek, New Hampton, IA; David (Jillaine) Cresco, IA; Robert (Tammie) Dexter, MN; a sister, Betty (Louis) Torkelson, Rochester, MN and Kenny Waller, a special family friend.  Two brothers-in-law: Zeno (Helen) Kappes, Burr Oak, IA and Leonard (Angie) Kappes, Ridgeway, IA.  Eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, a sister Lorraine (James) Daley and a brother George Clynch.

Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 5, 2017, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Lourdes, IA.  Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.  Visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home 404 N Elm Street Cresco, IA, with a scripture service at 4:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue an hour prior to the time of service Friday at the church.
