Charlotte Sorenson, 72, of Decorah died Monday, March 5, 2018, at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. Services were at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, March 8, at Sclhuter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, with Rev. Allen Vik officiating. Organist was Kathy Murray. Hymns were “Amazing Grace,” “In the Garden” and “How Great Thou Art.” Interment is in Phelps Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home.

Charlotte Georgina (Burgess) Sorenson was born May 30, 1945, to Charles and Ida (Wenthold) Burgess in Cresco. She attended and graduated from Cresco High School. Charlotte married Elmer Sorenson Dec. 28, 1979, in Cresco. She worked at Donaldson’s in Cresco and a convenience store in Decorah. Charlotte enjoyed sewing and crafts, garage sales and watching TV. She also enjoyed living on the road with Elmer when he worked for Carlson’s and spending time with the Carlson employees and their families. She especially loved her dogs.

Charlotte is survived by Elmer’s children: Theresa (Larry) Liget, San Diego, Calif.; Lori Kennington, Montello, Wis.; Richard Sorenson, Decorah; along with four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Emma Jean (Martin) Koudelka, Cresco; brothers: Kenneth (Donna) Burgess, Cresco; twin brother Charles Burgess, Cresco; in-laws: Gerry Sorenson, Decorah; Arlene (Duane) Larson, Decorah; Edna Jacobson, Decorah; Dale (Connie) Sorenson, Bullhead City, Ariz.; Marilyn (Jay) Beard, Decorah; along with many nieces and nephews.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, in 2010; parents, Charles and Ida (Wenthold) Burgess; Elmer’s parents, Leonard and Kate(Hotvedt) Sorenson; brothers and sisters: Elta Jean Burgess, Alice May (Pat) Whalen, Helen (Virgil) Hovden, Rosemary (John) Ott, Charlene (Duane) Hageman, Corrine (Dale) Arnold, Dorothy (Leo) McGee; brothers-in-law: Arnold Sorenson, Lester Sorenson, Harold (Bud) Jacobson.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Aase Haugen Home Foundation; Humane Society of Northeast Iowa; or a charity of your choice.
