Cheryl Ash

Cheryl Jean Ash, age 82, of Decorah, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023 at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah.
Cheryl was born Dec. 8, 1940 to Allard and Jacqueline (Lane) Nyberg in West Union, Iowa. She was Confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa on April 11, 1954. Cheryl graduated from Postville High School with the Class of 1959.

On Jan. 16, 1960 Cheryl married Gary Ash. Three children were born to this union. They later divorced. Throughout the years Cheryl was a homemaker and worked at Tillers Furniture Store in Prairie du Chien, Wis. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and WELCA in Postville. Cheryl enjoyed reading, watching Hallmark and old movies, dancing and listening to music. She also took pleasure in cleaning. Cheryl loved her family, friends, animals and her cats.

Surviving Cheryl are two of her children, Melisa (Gary) Lehmann of Elgin, and Carey (Jean) Ash of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Erica (Tim) Brenden, Tonya (Travis) Holthaus, Brianna Lehmann, Emily Ash and Austin Ash; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Natalie, Jaclyn, Aubrey, Kenadi Holthaus and Camden, Calvin, Cullen and Londyn Brenden; and her sister, Kathy Cox of Waukon.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Allard and Jacqueline Nyberg; son, Jamey Ash; former husband, Gary Ash; brothers, Alan Nyberg, David Schroeder; friend, Bruce Hinkel; and step-father, Keith Schroeder.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with a Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 20, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, with Rev. Lynn Noel as the officiant. Burial will follow at Postville Cemetery in Postville.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville is assisting the family with arrangements.
