Clair Borseth, 84, of Decorah, died March 11, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society in West Union. Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at Madison Lutheran Church, Ridgeway, with Pastor Jeff Hansen officiating. Pianist was Cindy Hovey. Hymns were “Beautiful Savior,” “How Great Thou Art” and “You Should Be Here.” Soloist was Don Dilaura (“In the Garden” and “On Eagles’ Wings”). Honorary casket bearers were John Anderson, Troy Anderson, Lee Anderson and Sean Price. Military rites were offered by Decorah area veterans. Interment is at a later date, in Madison Lutheran Cemetery, Ridgeway. Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Decorah.
Clair Elmer Borseth was born July 9, 1934, the son of Clarence and Christina (Myran) Borseth in Decorah. Clair graduated from Decorah High School before joining the Army where he served from 1957 to 1959 in Alaska. He married Lavon Lenth March 27, 1960, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Clair worked a variety of jobs throughout the years including: selling Watkins Products, selling water softeners and salt and was a service man for People’s Natural Gas. He enjoyed playing cards and talking to people. Clair loved spending time with friends and family.
Clair is survived by his son, Randy (Becky Price) Borseth, Decorah; brothers-in-law: Verland (Ellen) Lenth, Waukon; Eldon (Carol) Lenth, Elgin; and Dale (Sue) Lenth, Castalia.
Clair was preceded in death by his wife, Lavon, in 2012; parents, Clarence and Christina (Myran) Borseth; siblings: Martha (Orville) Ness, Edith Klotzbach, Cecil Borseth and Robert (Ruth) Borseth; father and mother-in-law, Edwin and Ethel (Weller) Lenth; sisters-in-law, Sharon (Kenneth) Bigler and Karilyn Lenth; brother-in-law, Dayton Lenth.
