Craig Faldet, 66, of Decorah, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2020, at his home in Decorah. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2020, at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, with Rev. Stacey Nalean-Carlson officiat-ing. Organist was Paul Bruvold. Hymns were “Onward Christian Soldiers,” “Precious Lord, Take My Hand,” “You Are Mine” and “This Is My Father’s World.” Recessional song was “Midnight Rider.” Burial was in the church ceme-tery. Visitation was from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and after 10 a.m. at the church Friday morning. The Schluter-Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Craig Bryon Faldet was born April 5, 1953, the son of Curtis and Ileta (Martens) Faldet, in Decorah. He was bap-tized and confirmed at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. Craig graduated from Decorah High School in 1972. He went on to wrestle at Waldorf College and eventually transferred to Winona State where he earned his teaching degree. After college he took a job as a shop teacher at Eagle Grove Schools for two years. Craig moved back to Decorah and worked for Hall Roberts & Son in Postville for five years in the office. He started Decorah Rental in 1982 with his father Curt, where he has worked ever since with his family. Craig married Donna McConnell in 1988 and together they had three daughters. After they divorced, he married Sue Reicks July 6, 2017, at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. Craig enjoyed planting and taking care of his garden. He was a member of Canoe Ridge Lutheran and the American Rental Association.
Craig is survived by his wife, Sue; children: Michelle (Pat) Blake, Webster City; Felicia (Don) Richardson, Crystal, Minn. and Cassandra (JJ) Cook, Cedar Rapids; mother, Ileta Faldet, Decorah; grandchildren: Brock, Abigail, Luke and Jude Blake; Isabelle, Jaxon, Katerina, Lucy and Matthew Cook; step-children: Holly (Bill) Sires, Rochester, Minn.; Michael (Sarah) McConnell, Rochester, Minn.; Trisha Reicks, Decorah; and Cory (Erica) Reicks, Protivin; step-grandchildren: Preston and Mason Sires; Collin and Caroline McConnell and Aleeah Reicks; sisters: Kathryn (Car-leton) Haugen, Decorah; Karen Duff, Cedar Rapids; and Renee (Steve) Uthoff, Ely; uncles and aunts: Philip Sev-erson, Decorah; Janice Cornelius, Waukon; and Merlin Faldet, Decorah; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Faldet; brother-in-law, Bob Duff; step-granddaughter, Caitlin Sires.
