Curtis Dean Selberg, formerly of Waukon and Decorah, passed away peacefully in his home in Rosenberg, Texas, March 20, 2018, following illness. Curt will be buried at a later date at Dunham Grove Cemetery in rural Fayette county.
Curt was born on the Selberg family farm near Waukon Dec. 20, 1938, to parents Walter H. and Vivian (Kurth) Selberg. He received his grade school education at Ludlow N0. 3, a one-room country school. In 1956, Curt graduated from Waukon High School. The following year he married Marjorie Nolting. Their marriage was blessed with three sons: Mark, Brad, and Brian. They were later divorced. Marjorie survives, as well as their son Brian, his wife Lisa (Ford), grandchildren Ryan, Jessica, Sarah and Kayla, and great-granddaughters Sydney and Brinley.
Curt married Jananne (Jan) McLeese Mullan in 1967.They have one daughter, Michelle (Mickie) Engrav. She and her husband, Robert (Bob), live in Texas, and after retirement Curt and Jan moved there to be near them. The Engrav grandchildren, Annika, Greta and Tait, brought so much joy to their “Bapa,” and he always enjoyed their visits. They all survive him in Texas.
Curt spent his adult life driving tractors, school buses and Chevrolet cars. He was transportation director in the Decorah school district when he retired and was very proud of that. He liked restoring and painting antique tractors and had a great interest in classic cars. In retirement, Curt and Jan enjoyed traveling from their home in Texas to northeast Iowa to visit family and friends.
He is survived by his brother, Keith (Pat); sister-in-law, Jean (Bob) Mathis; and his nieces and nephews: Scott, Shane, Jay, Shawn and Jill, and their spouses and children.
Curt was preceded in death by sons, Mark Curtis and Bradley Dean; his parents, Walter and Vivian; in-laws, Bob and Dorothea McLeese; brother-in-law Larry McLeese; as well as a brother who died at birth.
