David A. Stortz, 70, of Fayette, and formerly of Decorah, died Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Strawberry Point Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point. Memorial mass is at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 8, at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah. Inurnment is in St. Benedict Cemetery in Decorah with full military honors. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, one hour before the service, at Fjelstul Funeral Home. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah is serving the family. David Allan Stortz was born March 13, 1947, in Decorah, the son of Allan Clement and Dorothy Ann (Lynch) Stortz. He was a 1965 graduate of De Sales High School in Ossian, and a 1969 graduate of Loras College, Dubuque, with a major in history and a minor in English and philosophy. He attended Brown University of Broadcasting in Minneapolis, Minn. and worked as a radio announcer at various radio stations in Iowa and Southern Minnesota. David served in the United States Army with the rank of Specialist E-4, and was honorably discharged March 10, 1977. David lived in Decorah for many years and recently at Prairie View in Fayette. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah.
David is survived by his sister, Alana (Dan) Harbeck of Idaho Springs, Colo.; his brother, L. Edward Stortz of Loveland, Colo.; his nieces, Brenna Harbeck and Rachel Stortz; his nephews, Tim (Kirsten) Harbeck and Jamin (Sharon) Stortz; his great-nieces: Taryn, Olivia, Halie, Regan and Ava Harbeck, and Olivia Stortz; and his great-nephew, Grant Stortz.
David was preceded in death by his father Allan in 1990 and his mother Dorothy in 1997.
