David Breitsprecher, 75, of Ossian, died Saturday, June 2, 2018, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, at Ossian Lutheran Church in Ossian, with Rev. David Lenth officiating. Organist was Elaine Knutson. Soloists were Rich and Lee Hendrickson, and Sarah McGee and David Lenth. Hymns were “Softly & Tenderly Jesus is Calling,” “Borning Cry,” “Precious Lord, Take My Hand,” “Just a Closer Walk with Thee,” “How Great Thou Art” and “When Peace Like a River.” Inurnment was at Hillside Cemetery, Ossian. Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Decorah.
David Lyle Breitsprecher was born Sept. 12, 1942, the son of Lyle and Mildred (Svendsen) Breitsprecher. He graduated from South Winn High School in Calmar. David was united in marriage to Pamela Albright Oct. 20, 1962, at the United Brethren Church in Castalia. Together they had two children, Shawn and Troy. In 1965, David enrolled in the Riesch Auctioneering School in Mason City. He went on to make a 50-year career of buying and selling livestock at various auction barns around the country. David had a strong work ethic and loved what he was doing. He was an active member of the Ossian Lutheran Church in Ossian. Dave’s life was blessed by the special presence of family and friends from all walks of life. No one was a stranger to him for very long. He enjoyed swapping stories with whomever he met.
David is survived by his wife, Pamela (Albright) Breitsprecher, Ossian; children, Shawn (Hope) Breitsprecher, Ossian and Troy (Marion) Breitsprecher, Williston, S.D.; grandchildren: Dalton, Cole and Kaleb Breitsprecher; great-grandson, Skyler Breitsprecher; sister, JoAnn Ott, Ossian; sister-in-law, Marilyn Breitsprecher, Ossian; brother-in-law Herbert Hageman, Ossian; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Mildred (Svendsen) Breitsprecher; brothers, Lee Breitsprecher and Gary Breitspreche
