David Fitch, 81, of Decorah, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019, at Ev-ans Memorial Nursing Home in Cresco. A memorial service is at 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Ave in Decorah, with Rev. Kurt Bockoven presiding. Burial will be in the Big Canoe Cemetery at a later date.Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Ave., in Decorah.

David Bruce Fitch was born Oct. 2, 1938, the son of Norman and Esther (Brovold) Fitch on the family farm north of Decorah. He attended rural schools. David married Patricia (Blegen) Berg Nov. 23, 1977. He worked at Calmar Manufacturing as a cabinet maker for many years. In his re-tirement he enjoyed woodworking in his shop. David built various beautiful items including a cradle used for grandchildren and great grandchildren, a china hutch for his wife, numerous wood items for family members as well as donating many birdhouses that he had made to different organizations.

David is survived by his wife, Patricia; children: Patricia Berg-Fitch, Decorah; Jacqueline (John) Schick, Dover, Minn.; Kevin (Dana) Pfister, West Liberty; and Lorie Stransky, Riverside; grandchildren: Ryan Berg, Brandyn Wagner, Seth Wagner, Heather (Seth) Arends, Becca (Riley) O’Neill, Jake (Lacey) Stransky, Tim Stransky and Jeremy (Megan) Dotson; great grandchildren: Abbi, Carsen, Emmy, Beau, Layla Stransky; Karter and Shay Arends; Bannon and Reagan O’Neill; Jacob and Jenna Dotson; brother, William (Elaine) Fitch, Dubuque; brother-in-law, Edward (Deanna) Blegen, Warsaw, Mo.; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Fitch; mother and step-father, Esther (Brovold) and Emmons Moen; sister, Georgene Fitch; father and mother-in-law, Nathan (Leone) Blegen and Mildred (Robert) Broderick.

The family would like to give special thanks to Ed (Theresa) Helgeson and Raymond (Judy) Koshatka for all they have done for dad and mom over the years, it is greatly appreciated.
