David Warren Thorsten died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018, at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, surrounded by his family. David’s wish was to be cremated. His family will greet friends and other family members Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah. Private family services and burial will be held at a later date.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Thorsten, Oct. 17, 2017; his aunt, Carol Hammel; and two uncles, Bud Ihde and Alton Lovstuen.
David is survived by his son, Ryan Thorsten of Decorah; mother, JoAnn Thorsten of Decorah; sister, Robyn (Mark) Burton of Marion; niece, Ashley (Brian) Eckhoff and their children, Lucas and Brynlee. of Marion; aunts, Kay Ihde and Rosemary Lovstuen; uncles: Tom Keefe, Bill Keefe and Roger Hammel; and many other special cousins.
David was born in Decorah in 1963. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Decorah and was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah. He graduated from Decorah Senior High School in 1981. He worked at Camcar in Decorah for many years and most recently at Bruening Rock Products in Decorah.
David enjoyed anything to do with mechanics and cars. He especially liked dirt track racing and NASCAR. He raced his own late model car for many years. He also liked to visit the fishing holes around Decorah and at the Mississippi River.
David was also a lover of dogs, especially his loyal friend Riley. He took his son Ryan out fishing whenever he could and also loved watching him play baseball through all his school years.
David will be missed but not forgotten.
